Coordinator vs Coordinator, cornerback vs receiver, defensive end vs tackle, by a fan for the fan.Rojhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12890579640105871479noreply@blogger.comBlogger46125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8710033130432806382.post-37469965186113758002014-12-21T12:58:00.000-08:002014-12-21T12:58:43.971-08:00Where is Rueben Randle and the other 2014 recievers? After 14 games in 2014 Reuben Randle has been targeted 108 times with 59 catches, he has 648 yards receiving and 161 yards of that are YAC. Randles longest is 27 yards with 6 catches for 20 or more. While Preston Parker has 31 catches, targeted 50 times, 366 yards, 103 of them YAC. His longest is 42, average is 11.8 with 4 catches going for 20 or more.

Lets do some math, Randle catches the ball a shade over 54% of the time, Parker catches the ball 62% of the time. Parkers YAC is a shade over 28% of his total yards receiving, while Randles YAC is a shade under 25% of his total yardage.

Here is my conundrum, Randle is faster and taller but has a lower average yards per catch, doesnt catch the ball as well when targeted and his YAC is a bit less than Parker. Before I looked all this up, I thought Parker was faster, but no, his 40 yard times are 4.59 to 4.65 while Randle range is 4.43 to 4.55.

Parker seems to find space, which is the job of a slot receiver. Sometimes Parkers seems to get really good separation. Randle often gets just enough separation to make the catch and as he gets tackled lunges for more yardage, Randle doesnt seem to be able to get turned upfield after the catch, nor does he get in back of the cornerback covering him. For context Victor Cruz has burned good corners with the double move on the outside, going for major yardage. Cruz ran a 4.57 40 yard dash, hes slower than Randle.

Additionally Randle does well with the come back route for a first down along the sideline, or the quick slant, or the crossing route over the middle. Apparently hes lacking what it takes to be used in other routes, I think the Giants know this and use him accordingly.

Its not exactly fair to compare Parker who plays a lot of slot to Randle who is always going up against a teams #1 or #2 corner on the outside. But there is a marked difference in production efficiency between the two players.

If I'm Jerry Resse, and I'm looking to 2015 (Assuming Cruz is 100%) I want a legit #1 to play opposite Odell Beckham Jr, though Victor Cruz can be very effective in the slot, so can OBJlll. Both Cruz and Beckham can play the outside or the inside, and in my minds eye, if I want to enjoy Odell & Victor tearing it up in 2015, they need to play with a legit outside receiver.

I love the potential of Corey Washington, but for the sake of this discussion, hes not ready. The 2015 draft will have 5 really good Tackles going early, so that may be BPA and needs aligning. I can see picking another OL and a DL in the next 2 rounds, then a TE. IF this pans out a top potential #1 outside receiver to replace Randle is beyond the reach of my General Manager hands. If this is the way it plays out, we're stuck with Randle, hoping Washington develops so the combination of the 2 is enough to keep defenses guessing who is getting the ball, Beckham, Cruz, Randle or Washington.Rojhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12890579640105871479noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8710033130432806382.post-91923223538089725072012-04-25T09:48:00.001-07:002012-04-26T12:18:18.674-07:00Early 2012 Giants signingsJust to catch up, the Giants have signed Domemik Hixon whose 4.34 speed might replace Mario Manninghams 4.38 speed on those deep routes. Hixon has less than 900 yards receiving over 5 years due to injury. Cornerbacks Terrel Thomos, Justin Tryon, Michael Coe are all signed, Tryon gives the Giants quality depth with his 3 years experience starting at Corner & Nickel, Justin can cover the outside and slot receiver and is a proven top rated gunner on specials. Coe has done much in 4 previous years, but played well in spurts, playing well after Tryon went down to injury, with some good solo tackles and pass defenses, including a batted ball before being injured. If healthy Terrel Thomas, on paper, should be a great tackler and a dominating corner, 4 or 5 picks and a pro bowl slot may be in the offering. The Giants have also signed 4 year CB Antwuan Molden adding more depth and experience to the secondary that now toutes 7 players, most teams keep 5 or 6. Terrel Thomas, Prince Amukamare, Cory Webster, Justin Tryon, Michael Coe, Antwuan Molden, Brandon Bing (Rutgers).

Sean Locklear, a 31 year old Utility O Lineman was signed by the Giants, Locklear has played both tackle position and guard, hes expected to compete with Kareem McKenzie for the right tackle spot, Kareem will be 33 this year. Last years 4th round pick James Brewer can also play right tackle, and Jim Cordle, drafted last year played center for Ohio State, was used as a jumbo tight end during the playoff run.

The Giants have tried to get younger on the O Line the last 2 years and only the starting tackles from last year are over 29 years of age. Both Kevin Boothe and Mitch Petrus showed promise last year. On the Depth chart: Chris White is a 7 year veteran undersized guard at 6'2" 303 pnds, Selvish Capers at 6'5" 315 pnds was a rookie last year, James Brewer is 6'6" and a monstrous 330 pnds. Brewer started 21 games at right tackle at Indiana and 2010 was part of the O line that allowed a sack per game, ranking them 14th nationally.

Tight end: Both Travis Beckum and Jake Ballard suffered injuries and can be expected to miss significant playing time, probably on the PUP list or worse. The Giants have already made a good move in signing Martellus Bennet. Bennet played 4 years in Dallas stuck on the depth chart behind Jason Witten. Bennet is a good blocker, making 85 catches for 846 yards in 4 years at Dallas. Bennet is sized like Ballard, 6'6" and 270 pnds fitting right in with TE coach Mike Pope's prototype TE.

A good team should draft the best player available, so just because the Giants have 7 corners on the roster doesn't mean they won't take a corner.

And lets further assume both defenses are slowing if not stopping the run. And lets assume that Alex Smith, who has a reputation as a game manager, showed his growth against the Saints by throwing strikes and orchestrating 2 drives, leading his team to 2 TD's. Lets assume those 2 drives are the improved Alex Smith, and the Giants will face that improved Alex Smith.

So both defenses have stopped the run, and the 2 quarterbacks now have to throw the ball to win the game. Who do you think can carry his team to victory?

Thats why I have changed my view of this game, I was thinking GIants by 3, I'm now thinking GIants by 5.
Vernon Davis is a second faster than Victor Cruz. The Giants defensive backs have some decent speed: Corey Webster: 4.5, Aaron Ross: 4.41, Antrel Rolle: 4.48, Prince Amukamara ran a 4.43 at the combine, but squeaked out a 4.38 on his proday. Matching up with Davis's speed is going to be an issue, bumping Davis in the first 5 yards will be crucial. The Giants have been great at defending Tight Ends the last 4 weeks, Chase Blackburn has been a key factor in the middle, but don't expect Blackburn (4.69) to run with Davis.

Against the Saints Davis benefited from some inside out technique by 2 DB's, Davis's speed means he can run by 2 DB's playing inside out. Downfield, bracketing Davis with 2 players is vital in making sure DAvis gets tackled after he makes his catch.

On shorter timing routes Davis may see a variety of double teams. The Giants covered these routes well in the Green Bay game and Perry Fewells schemes have done well in defending the middle the last 4 games.

Look to see Blackburn bump Davis and cover a crossing route in an underneath zone, with help from from a safety, as Davis runs thru the zone, Blackburn might hand off Davis to the next player in the zone. The Giants have been doing this well since Blackburns return, they've also down it with man and zone in the back end. Then to mix things up rookie safety Tyler Sash will play on run downs, he's a good box type safety who has a nose for the ball, 13 picks and 13 pass defenses in college.

The Giants defense is going to have to play lights out to slow down Vernon Davis, I can see Fewell mixing things up to keep Davis under control and it means QB Alex Smith will have to avoid the rush while deciphering the varying defensive schemes.
NYG have scored 121 pts vs the 49ers 109 over 4 games. While on defense the Giants allow 12 points and the 49ers average 19.75 pts per game. NYG defense has allowed 48 pts.game over 4 games, 49ers allowed 79 pts over 4 games.

But for some reason Vegas wants to pick the 49ers?

Looking at the above numbers, the offensive averages are close, but the defensive numbers are glaringly different, nearly 8 points. Before the Atlanta game I had no clue the Giants defense would blank Atlanta, and I thought the Giants would beat Green Bay by 6, not 17. So on Monday afternoon, I'm picking the Giants by 8 points.

Edited to correct a math error.

Keyshon Johnson picks the Gmen 29-21, I think he Gmen win by 6 points.

9 of Green Bays wins were one possession games.

Dont expect Aaron Rodgers to throw a pick.

Bradshaw and Jacobs must run for 130+ to win.

Secondary must makes plays on deep throws. Pass rush must dictate.
Do these 3 things and the Giants win by 6 or more.

Giants are vastly improved since week 13, Packers aren't. In 9 of 16 games the Pack won a one possession game, the 10th they lost, and the remaining 6 games the Pack won by more than one possession.

The way KC beat GB is more important than that KC won. GB went 4 for 16 converting 3rd downs, KC defended the middle and the long ball while rushing the QB. At this point in time the Giants do all of these things better than KC did.

The Giants pass rush is better than the GB O line, even with 2 starters returning for GB. The Giants O line is better than the GB pass rush.

GB is +19 on turnovers, they play a risky secondary technique that yields either a pick for GB or a big play for the opposition. GB DB's cheat up on the WR, not the Tampa 2 style, so the GB Secondary is vulnerable to double moves and 2 WR's crossing/brush off the DB's....

GB has to prepare for the #1 pass rush, a secondary that is playing not as a bottom of the barrel defense, but a top 5 unit. GB also has to defend one of the best WR trios in the league and if the TE's perform, defend against 3 TE's. The Giants will run plays against Clay Matthews, and then do something off of that. Look at the 4th quarter, a physical run game will have the Pack tired, on their heels and it may well be the Giants pad the lead.

Giants rush on punts and kicks has been getting closer the last 4 weeks, if GB keeps another blocker in, they're vulnerable to a big return.

I'm picking the Giants to win, if the Giants run the ball, dont turn the ball over and play Defense like they have, this can be an ugly game for the Packers scoring only 17 points. If the Giants specials give us a TD, and the secondary picks Rodgers... don't be surprised by 31-14 Gmen.

I also think the Giants can survive Eli throwing a pick 6, still winning, the score will be close.

"They've been playing really well as a whole,"

Rodgers is talking about the Giants secondary, not the pass rush. A secondary that is the most improved unit on the team over the last 3 weeks. Yeah the pass rush is better, but looking at the last 2 games of the season the Giants had 11 sacks, 3 of them were coverage sacks. And against Atlanta, the Giants only had 2 sacks.... so one couild argue... that vs Atlanta it wasn't so much the pass rush, but the secondary that was the difference maker.

Part of that improvement is the Giants ability to defend the middle. Since much the Green Bay offense is predicated on timing routes, slants and curls, much of the current Giants defense matches up well in that regard. And then add in the bend but don't break ability of the Giants secondary, its understandable that Rodgers tells us "it's going to be a tough challenge".

Aaron Rodgers can get rid of the ball in 2.5 seconds in the face of pressure, he can scramble and he can run the ball. On first down Rodgers is likely to see the Giants base defenseive line, 2 DE's and 2 DE's. This group of guys will get pressure up the middle to not allow Rodgers to step up, while the DE's are supposed to contain the pocket. The Green Bay running game is not effective enough to make the 1st down run fake meaningful so it maybe up to Rodgers to get the ball out quickly. If this means Rodgers has to challenge the Giants much improved secondary, who defends the middle much better, look to see if Green Bay runs routes to the sideline. Since the Giants tend to use an inside out technique, they may be vunerable to the sideline outs. But.... if the Giants secondary is playing press man coverage, disrupting the receivers as they try and get off the line, will we see Aaron Rodgers throwing the ball away on first down, yeah he's smart and won't take the chance.

While facing 2nd or 3rd and long Rodgers may face 4 DE's, Rodgers may try and scramble, but remember Tuck, Osi and JPP are quick, and they will chase the QB across the field. On 3rd and long Rodgers will have to be more creative, scrambling for time to allow his receivers to get 12-16-18 yards downfield.

The Giants defense has picked it up and Aaron Rodgers and his receivers are going to have to equal the Giants improvement, or lose the game.

Meanwhile the Giants have run for 100+ in 4 out of the last 5 games, and the Giants have seen the emergence of Henry Hynoski, he blocks, runs, and catches a pass or 2.

Jake Ballard is active, but lets not forget about Bear Pascoe who seems to be targeted 2 or 3 times a game, and has a handful of spectacular 1st down conversions, where Bear has vaulted or high jumped a DB. With 2 Tightends on the field for Atlanta to cover, we may see some opportunities for others to get open.

Mario Manningham is back, so the Giants will field one of the top receiving trios in the league.

The Giants secondary will cover. Yup. @ things happened after the loss to Washington, Coughlin talked to Justin Tuck, who then said he was in the best mental frame of mind that hes been in all year. Perry Fewell talked with the secondary unit, whatever was said, there're no more audibles, and Fewell has tasked the secondary with disguising coverages and to play more press coverage.

Antrel Rolle has said he's fine with playing nickel corner, hinting that if he has to play nickel corner to win a ring, he's down with that.

2 intangibles:
1) Last week vs Dallas, on the play where Tony Romo threw the ball after he crossed the line of scrimmage, because we covered Robinson, Witten, Bryant and Austin for over 10 seconds. Best single secondary play of the year.

2) After the Dallas game the Defensive unit was seen on the sidelines in a group high five. No me, no I, TEAM !

I see a 50% chance the Giants hold Atlanta to 17 points, a 25% chance the Giants win big, a 99% chance the giants win by 6. Giants 31-17.
Everyone else gets a B, defense should have had a C but for the last stop to give the ball back to Eli. Weathorford and Tynes were good, return unit needs work, or something.

Is it me or has the secondary taken a step back? Ross and Webster had 3 picks a piece and Rolle and Phillips chipped in 3 more, with at least 12 batted balls, all in the first half of the season. I realize injuries have caused players to be played out of their natural positions, causing communication issues. But we eed to stay in the plus area on turnovers. I'm not going to knock Fewell like I did Gilbride. because Fewell has been making due with guys off the bench and picking up guys off of waivers. I would just add, Fewell needs to mix up his pass rush schemes more than he has, but thats also reliant on the cover guys.

IF the Giants can play the same group in the secondary from here on out, we might see some improvement there. Good coverage can make that 3 man defensive front more viable, and keeping an opposing offense guessing about what they'll face, 3 man, 4 man, 5 man pass rush can tip the balance on the Giants favor.
Arizona linebackers filled gaps, while the blitz scheme mixed it up. With Chase Blackburns solid zone pass coverage (he follows a crossing receiver until Blackburn can hand the WR off to a safety), its not clear that Dallas TE Whitten will be wide open. And if Blackburn hands off Whitten to Tyler Sash, the former Iowa Star, Romo could be throwing to Whitten as Sash does what he did at Iowa, recognizes the ball and moves in. Tyler Sash add 13 interceptions at Iowa to go along with 392 return yards.

Last week vs Arizona Dez Bryant burnt the Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson repeatedly on comeback routes. I'm sure Dallas has film of Aaron Ross jumping those same routes, like the one he picked off in the Seattle game. Look for Tony Romo to target Prince Amukamara, specifically with his best receiver Dez Bryant who is 2 inches taller than the Prince. Perry Fewell hasn't put Prince Amukamara on the island yet, but if Dallas targets Prince Amukamara this might be the best test yet for the former first round pick, Amukamara.

And one of the things the Giants secondary worked on in practice was handing off receivers within zone or partial zone schemes. Something that didn't work out on the Driver TD in the Green Bay game. Last week vs Green Bay this is something that Chase Blackburn did very well and the secondary needs to iron out.

With Eli having his starting wide outs on the field, Mario Manningham, Victor Cruz and Hakeem Nicks presence on the field can open up the middle, and the Giants have some size to dominate the middle. TE Travis Beckum at 6'3" made the most of his one catch vs Green Bay, Ramses Barden & Bear Pascoe are both 6'5" and Jake Ballard (Mini Bavaro) is listed at 6'6".

The Giants will have the same O line personal as last week and hope to run the ball, with a meaningful run fake, making the Dallas linebackers bite for a second, Eli might have time for deeper routes and an opportunity to take advantage of Manninghams 4.38 speed.

Predictions:

Giants Defense forces Dallas into at least 3 field goal attempts, gets at least 4 stops, allows 4 trips to the redzone. 5 Sacks. Tyler Sash & Prince Amukamara were both ball hawks in college and we know that when Tony Romo starts throwing picks, he doesn't throw just one in a game. I'm expecting Dallas field goals so numbers like 16, 20, 23 or 25 come to mind.

Jacobs and Brradshaw: Expect these guys to tear it up, 130 yards combined.

Offense, If we run the ball, that will keep the time of possession in our favor and reduces the shoot out potential. Even so I think the Giants score 28 to 35 points.

Dallas is favored by 3.5 points, the under over is 44.5. I'm taking the Gmen and the over.
After the overall good performance of the Deihl, Snee, Boothe, Petrus and Mackenzie lineup in Sundays game against the Packers, many fans think Baas should sit and Boothe should play. The question may be moot soon with twitter rumors suggesting David Baas is headed for Injured reserve,
Bradshaw and Boley are questionable but are expected to play, Bradshaw did practice on Friday. Mario Manningham has "stuff" floating in his knee, he is doubtful. The real question with Manningham is will he play again this year, or can rest allow him to play effectively?

With Boley back, can he keep the Giants rookie linebackers from being confused, can Boley will the unit to play well?

With Bradshaw back on the field the question will be, is he effective, and do we see the old one two punch of Bradshaw and Jacobs, if the O line is actually run blocking?
But without showing they can beat an elite team, the Giants cannot be expected to go anywhere. With Defensive coach Perry Fewell admonishing his unit to get after Aaron Rodgers this week, the giants defense needs to come out on fire.

Giants.com has posted videos for the new Ring of Honor Inductees, I watched all of them. What particularly struck me was a play in the Carl Banks video where Banks vaults over the opposing offensive line at the snap, and lands on the Quarterback before he can step back. Thats what Antrel Rolle calls a baller. Remember LT talking about a pack of wild dogs?
The Giants would need to make room for Kennedy on the 53 man roster if they wanted to play Kennedy.
On all but one running play Jacobs got positive yardage. Look at the Matchup of Justin Smith and David Diehl on passing downs. If the Giants are running effectively the run fake might help out Diehl in pass protection.

Alex Smith has a 60% accuracy percent when hes under pressure, expect the Giants Dee linemen to make it understood that Smith will see lots of pressure. I think the pressure on Smith will yield 2 picks and a number of batted balls.

The 49ers have one of the best running backs in the league in Frank Gore. Expect the Giants to play LB Greg Jones in running downs, check out Jones to see how he does, if he makes run reads and fills the gap Gore may have trouble making long runs. Deon Grant will be used as a hybrid Linebacker/Safety, playing close to the line of scrimmage. Grant is capable vs the run. Look to see Jones, Grant and Michael Boley to make timely run stops. This might tip the balance towards the Giants run Dee in containing Frank Gore.

Ramses Barden made 2 nice catches last week and was open 3 other times. Coach Coughlin praised Barden during the week and I think we can expect to Barden to be targeted more often. Nicks and Manningham look to be game day decisions.

The 49ers are very good in the redzone, the Giants need to force field goals, and I think the 49ers will settle for 2 or 3 field goals to add to 1 or 2 touchdowns.

If the Giants expose Alex Smith and can slow down Gore I see the potential for a solid win by the Giants: 31-20 or 24-16.
A 1st round 2005 draft pick, Smith has spent 5 years as a borderline flop. But half way thru the 2011 season, Smith has a QB ranking of 106 in the 4th quarter, 4th in the league, he has the lowest percent of batted balls and picks. Bolstered by one of the best running games in the league Alex Smith has led the 49ers to a 7-1 record.

What Coach Harbaugh has done is to simplify the hot reads. Normally a receiver and a quarterback needs to learn 2 routes, the regular route and the hot read route, this requires recognizing the blitz and altering the route. What the 49ers receivers do is to run a route, say a 15 yard out, and during the route the receiver at say the 6 yard mark, turns to the QB to see if he has thrown the ball because of the blitz.

Alex Smith didn't suddenly get better this year, but instead he's running an offense that suits his skills. The question is whether the Giants can expose Smith's fundamental weakness thru their pass rush and coverage.

Heres great article by Chris Brown explaining this in detail.
Another important key will be to attack the heart of the Pats 3-4 defense, the Linebackers. Using a one back 2 TE set and Barden - throwing passes into the Pats Linebacking corp, will make the Pats LB's think pass. Then Running Jacobs from that same passing formation, with Barden and the receivers blocking might unleash the Giants running game. Eli throwing the occasional deep strike to Cruz & Manningham will then keep the Pats Defense off balance. If we run vs the Pats defense, I'm thinking 150 yards team rushing.

If the Giants can make the Pats LB's hesitate in filling run gaps, we'll be running. Then the run fake has meaning. Belicheck knows this and will preach maintaining run responsibility with his linebackers.

I'll be happy if Barden has 5 catches for 65 yards and converts 2 catches on 3rd down. I'm looking for a break out game for Manningham, regaining his big play form of last year, he stopped the juggling act and last week made nice clean catches except for one drop. Mario gains 120 yards and at least one TD.

The Pats suffer from declining points totals all season, in their first game they scored 38, its been downhill, last week they scored 17 pts. In the last 2 weeks the Pats have scored an average of 18.5 pts per game.

I'm thinking Amukamara sees time in the nickel, gets a batted ball, with Ross and Webster I like our corners vs the Pats receivers.

We get pressure without blitzing, the Pats cant, they bring a LB in 3 pt stance and Andre Cater in passing downs. Carter in the game means the opportunity to run, let Carter rush on the perimeter, past the run play.

Past will not cover the pts (9). If we run the ball, we win big, 31-17., if not a close game with ELi playing in the 4th quarter as a #1 ranked QB... we win the close game on Eli's arm, 20-17. Pats will not blow us out, we may blow them out. If the Pats lead us on takeaways, they win 24-21.

I don't think the Giants want to expose Amukamara to too much Brady, he might see a limited role in the nickel. I'll predict that Prince tips a ball... to Cory Webster.

I'm going out on a limb and guess that we'll see a 2 TE set, Pascoe and Ballard will both see some balls. With Barden in the slot I'll be happy if he catches 5 for 65 yards. Net effect of 3 big receivers catching balls vs linebackers, the LB's start thinking pass, then you run Jacobs from a passing formation.

Great news for the Giants, I think they have a much better chance of beating the Pats. If Jacobs gets on track, Prince gets his feet wet, Barden makes the LB's think pass, we might see a 31-17 win by the Giants.
In a strange way Barden might help the run game. It goes like this: Barden, Pascoe and Ballard get sent across the middle early. This makes the Pats LB's think too much about coverage and they cheat on the pass, and in a 3-4 dee the LB's are the heart of the defense. If we can get the Pats LB's thinking pass, they are less likely to load the box or make quick run reds and fill the gaps, and without 8 or 9 in the box -then we run Jacobs from passing a formation.

As soon as the Pats go back to loading the box, we throw over the top.

Remember how the Pats 2 TE set causes problems for teams, in the same way we need to cause the same problem.

Our O line is not good enough to run block with 9 in the box, Coach has to figure a way to lure the Pats LB's into thinking coverage, making the Pats LB's think pass first can make then hesitate in run reads. If Jacobs gets into the gaps before the linebackers fill the gaps, they are yielding 5 yard runs.

If all of this happens, its off to the races for the Giants, with an effective run game the run fake will allow Eli to throw by design, not for desperation. The Pats Dee will be guessing run or pass all game and we'll win it running away.

Giants need to set the tone on the first drive.

Barden said he didn't know if he was traveling to New England, Barden said he would pack a bag just in case (as reported by the Star Ledger).

Kevin Gilbride made an interesting comment as reported by Mike Vorkunov:

“We’ve all been hanging on for Ramses to come back,” he said Thursday. “He and (Jerrel Jernigan), now are their chances, they’re going to be here.”

Did Jerrel Jernigan make some plays in practice that would cause Gilbride to make this comment?
Gerald Warren has 5 tackles and no sacks. Vince Wilfork anchors the line at the nose tackle position with 19 tackles, 1.5 sacks and a forced fumble. Wilfork at 6'2" and 325 pounds is a force at the nose.

Are these the guys that are supposed to stop the Giants run blockers? While the rest of the Patriots run down field to cover Ballard, Cruz and Manningham. And I'm assuming Barden will play?

Giants are +5 in turnovers, 6th in the league. Pats are +2, 12th in the league.
Giants score 29.4 points a game for 10th place, Pats score 28.9 points, placing 5th. But have scored 37 points in the last 2 games (18.5 average). And the Patriots scoring has been declining all season.

Meanwhile the Pats Defense allows the most yards in the league, and is 30th in 1st downs allowed, but is more resilient in the red zone allowing the 17th least points.
Pats 32nd yds, 30th 1st Dwns, 17th points.
Giants 16th yds, 17th 1st Dwns, 21st points.

Defensively Bill Belicheck is going to have to choose his poison, either cover the Giants receivers, or blitz Eli Manning.
